A DEIAB TRAINING

WHAT: CPNRI's first training focused exclusively on DEIAB. Join us for two trainings full of learning and actionable takeaways.

 

IMPORTANT: Please be advised that both morning, and both afternoon sessions, are the same. This is not a full day conference like the event we hosted in August. Please only register for up to one of each topic. Each session is limited to 60 participants.

TRAINING #1: Trauma Informed Care Through an Intersectional Lens

Training By: Dr. Amber Kelly

WHAT: This workshop will review what it means to create trauma-informed systems and provide trauma-informed services for clients and families. We will explore understanding why psychological trauma occurs, causes of different types of traumatization (i.e. "big T vs. little T", racial trauma, developmental trauma, etc), and potential impacts on us as providers and systems. We will also learn principles for creating trauma-responsive and relationally based cultures of care, connection, and respect, as well as best-practices towards healing, resiliency, and connection will be shared. Session objectives include: 

1. Learn to view trauma through an intersectional lens, seeing how instances of racism or ableism can lead to and effect trauma. 

 

2. Explore different ways in which trauma can manifest itself, including causes and symptoms. 

 

3. Discover how your own, and other’s, trauma can impact your day to day work. 

 

4. Gain strategies to take trauma-informed practices into your work, no matter your position.

SPEAKER

Dr. Amber Kelly

Dr. Amber Kelly is an Associate Professor of Social Work within Quinnipiac University's School for Health Sciences. She currently teaches both generalist and specialized year students in the MSW program, with focuses in theory, practice, and psychological trauma. Her scholarship focuses on using trauma-informed clinical work and contemplative practices with survivors of both interpersonal and structural violence, with a specific focus on working with currently and formerly incarcerated people. She is also active in working for social justice and systems change within institutions. Dr. Kelly is active in several roles including working with the Quinnipiac University Prison Project, teaching trauma-informed and mindfulness-based courses within Connecticut prisons, acting as is Co-Chair of the New Haven Women's Resettlement Working Group and as an organizer with Seeds and Sprouts in New Haven, CT. She also continues to maintain a small private practice, working with survivors of violence.

TRAINING #2: Moving Towards Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace: Implicit Bias

Training By: Christopher Hope and Kaytlyn Hope from Equity Intelligence

WHAT: This workshop aims to provide participants with a strategic framework to move beyond conversations about race and towards actionable steps for racial equity. By recognizing and disrupting patterns of oppression, attendees will gain the tools and knowledge to create a more inclusive and equitable work environment. Session objectives include: 

1. To identify and acknowledge our own implicit biases and their potential impact

on workplace dynamics.

2. To identify the various manifestations of racism in the workplace and where they

present in the employee lifecycle.

3. To learn a strategic antiracist framework that disrupts patterns of oppression and

implicit bias at work.

4. To enable participants to apply the framework within their own organizations.

5. To equip participants with actionable steps for promoting racial equity in their

workplace.

Christopher Hope

Christopher Hope, the Director of Creative Capital, isn't just a social entrepreneur; he's an award-winning and certified-DEIB professional visionary who has been sparking transformation in the DEIB realm for over a decade. He's the ingenious mind behind The Loop Lab, a trailblazing media arts nonprofit shaping a future where diversity thrives in the audio/video industries. His brilliance extends to Loop Lab Studio, an acclaimed BIPOC-led media production company. As a National Arts Strategies fellow and an Aspen Institute Executive Leadership program alumnus, Christopher is more than accomplished —he's a catalyst for change. He's a lecturer at Boston University College of Communications, and the Senior Entrepreneur-in-Residence for BUild Lab at Boston University, steering nearly $500k in startup funding.

Kaytlyn Hope

Kaytlyn Hope, MHA, C-TAGME, is the COO of Equity Intelligence, LLC, where she leads efforts to help institutions achieve authentic and sustainable diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. She also serves as an Education Program Manager at Boston Children's Hospital, overseeing initiatives such as housestaff wellness, regulatory compliance, and administrator training. Kaytlyn is Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Society of Academic Medical Administrators (NSAMA) and a respected national speaker on topics like developmental networks and empathy for administrators. Beyond her professional roles, she enjoys diverse interests like cooking, biking, volunteering, painting, and playing pickleball.
